London on a Budget: Top Things To Do For Free

Looking for something free to do in London? You’re in the right place!

Free Things to Do in London

London can be an expensive city, but also offers a huge selection of activities for free.

“The best things in life are free. The second best things are very, very expensive.”

Coco Chanel.

Here is my round up of the best things to do for free in London:

Museums are your new best friend.  London has an abundance of museums to keep you entertained.  My top picks:

Imperial War Museum

Natural History Museum

British Museum

Walk around the parks, or rent a Boris Bike! Pack up a picnic, grab some friends and enjoy brave the British Weather!

Regents Park is my favourite! Amazing views from the top of Primrose Hill, and the beautiful Queen Mary’s Rose Garden. Nestled amongst the park, is an Open Air Theatre and London Zoo – you can even get a sneak peak at the Giraffes.

Try Hyde Park for a central location, they even host free events throughout summer.

Head to Green Park for views of Buckingham Palace, and take a stroll along The Mall to Trafalgar Square or onto Big Ben.

Escape the city and head North to Hampstead Heath, you won’t regret it. If your feeling adventurous you could even brave one of the swimming ponds, or opt for the more inviting Lido.

Window Shopping

Willpower at the ready… London has some fabulous stores you must visit.

No London trip would be complete without visiting Harrods & Selfridges. Fortnum and Mason is an English icon – make sure you’re outside as the clock chimes on the hour to see Fortnum & Mason!

Explore Instagram hot spot, Notting Hill! Wander the colourful streets, shop at Portobello Market, check out the Biscuiteer & stop by The Churchill Arms for a drink.

Camden Market is food heaven, I recommend a walk along Regents Canal to Little Venice. You could even jump on the Waterbus if you have some cash to spare.

Check out the Street Art in Shoreditch

Soak up the atmosphere around Covent Garden, and stop by Neal’s Yard.

If your in town on a Sunday check out Columbia Road Flower Market.

Why not skip on The View for The Shard, and opt for the free Sky Garden. Booking is essential and tickets are released two week ahead.

Walking Tours

What better way to tick off the top London sights than with a free walking tour. I can highly recommend Sandmans tours, this 2.5hr tour includes landmarks such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace & Trafalgar Square.

(Although the tour is free, tips are highly encouraged as the tour guides earning are solely through tips)

Hopefully this will inspire you to explore London without spending a penny!
